Welcome to GreatAmericanCountry.com Fine Home Furnishings

Our love affair with lace is centuries old. Some of the earliest examples date back to 2000 BC, where lace making was derived from the humble origins of repairing fishing nets. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the manufacturing of lace accelerated. All lace was handmade and very expensive. For a gentleman to purchase enough lace for a large ruffled cuff or collar, he may have had to sell a few acres of vineyard.

Centuries later, lace still continues to tug at the heartstrings of true romantics. Since it's earliest beginnings, lace has evolved into a textile of great elegance. Lace is affordable and used in every room of the house. A Victorian lace tablecloth will transform a simple dining room into a warm space to entertain loved ones and friends. Lace panels hanging at a window will welcome in the sunshine while providing elegant decoration and privacy. Today, however, lace is used for far more than curtains and tablecloths. Lace scarves decorate fireplace mantles, doilies sit beneath treasured family photos, and lace skirts surround the base of the family Christmas tree.

Collectors of lace believe that you should never throw away a piece of lace, no matter how tiny or tattered. Do you use lace in a unique or nontraditional manner in your home? Contact Great American Country and tell us about it.
