Take a stroll in Glover Park, located in the town square in Marietta, GA. The town square is also the site of several cultural productions and public events, including a weekly farmers' market.

With a population of about 67,000, Marietta is considered one of Georgia's best-managed cities, and has garnered national recognition for offering a high quality of life for its residents. The city is located about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta, and is the county seat of Cobb County. Originally settled as a railroad hub in the 1800s, the city has enjoyed long periods of growth over the decades, and it has benefitted from its proximity to Atlanta. While Marietta residents can gain easy access to the big city by hopping on Interstate 285, there is plenty to do in this bedroom community, and it's become a city of choice for thousands of the metro area's families.

Stroll through the city's historic downtown, and you'll find a good number of shops and restaurants. Nearby you'll see Glover Park, the site of many outdoor concerts and events. Downtown is the location of many city events, including arts strolls, parades and a farmers market. Or grab lunch at "The Big Chicken," a local landmark rising out of a KFC restaurant at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Road.

Marietta's mild winters (lows only occasionally get below freezing) make it an attractive place for outdoor activities. Summers can be hot, and residents can cool off at the Sewell Park Pool, operated by the Cobb County government, or hit the rink at the Marietta Ice Center.

Children living within Marietta's city limits attend Marietta City Schools, an award-wining charter school system offering a choice of schools that focus on different areas of academics, including STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and International Baccalaureate. The Marietta school system is the only city system operating separately from the Cobb County school system.

Marietta is also the home of several college campuses, including Southern Polytechnic State University; the Marietta campus of Chattahoochee Technical College; Life University, which specializes in chiropractic medicine and health science; and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, located near Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

For healthcare, Marietta is served by WellStar Kennestone Hospital, which offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, cardiac and stroke care, orthopedic surgery and obstetrics. The hospital is one of the city's largest employers. Other large employers are YKK, a Japanese-based company that is the world's largest zipper maker; Alere, a health management systems company; and Aditya Birla, a chemical company.
