Steve Azar's Thumbprint Cookies
Cook Time: 25-30 mins | Serves: Varies
- 1½ cups butter
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tsp vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 3/8 tsp salt
- 2 ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespooons water
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- ½ tsp almond extract
- food coloring
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. With electric mixer, cream butter then add sugar and vanilla and beat well. Add in flour and salt and mix well. Form into small balls place on cookie sheet and press thumb into each ball to make a "well". Bake cookies at 325 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool then fill indentions with colored confectioners sugar icing according to the holiday!
ICING: Mix until desired consistency is reached. Adding more water or more powdered sugar as needed. You want it to be pretty thick so that it will dry to a firm finish on cookies.
