Stapleton Attractions and Housing

Modeled after the principles of new urbanism, Denver's newest neighborhood combines the perks of urban living with a traditional, small-town atmosphere. Residents of Stapleton enjoy walkable streets, a vibrant town center and more than 500 acres of parks and open space. Plus, the community is conveniently located just 10 minutes from downtown Denver, 20 minutes from Denver International Airport and 30 minutes from Colorado's Rocky Mountains.

Neighborhood History

Stapleton was built on the 7.5-square-mile site of Denver's former international airport, making it one of the largest urban land-redevelopment projects in the United States. More than six years of planning went into creating a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood that could stand the test of time environmentally, economically and socially. Since groundbreaking in 2001, Stapleton has grown to more than 10,000 residents. While little remains of the airport, an old air control tower serves as a reminder of Stapleton's history.

Recycled Pathways

During the building of Stapleton, more than 6 million tons of runway concrete was turned into an aggregate dubbed "Staplestone," which was used to build roadways, bridges and bike paths both in the community and throughout Colorado.

Green Acres

To promote a sense of community and a healthy lifestyle for residents, 30 percent of Stapleton's land was preserved for parks and open space. Thirty-six miles of walking and biking trails weave through the neighborhood, connecting to Denver's 850-mile network of trails.

The Greenway

Running through the heart of Stapleton, this dynamic urban nature preserve was designed to clean storm water and provide thriving wildlife habitats. The Greenway's hard and soft trails connect directly to the Greater Denver Greenway system.

Shared Spaces

Numerous "pocket parks" can be found nestled between homes throughout Stapleton, connecting neighbors through shared green spaces. The pocket parks are meant to supplement large backyards and bring neighbors together for games, barbecues and other gatherings.

Bustling East 29th Avenue

The focal point of the community, the East 29th Avenue Town Center is where Stapleton residents go to buy groceries, grab a bite to eat, pick up dry cleaning, take a yoga class or visit the dentist. In addition to shops and services, the mixed-used Town Center offers apartments and condos.

Town Center Attractions

Shaded picnic tables allow residents to get some fresh air in the heart of Stapleton. The East 29th Avenue Town Center is adjacent to the Founders' Green, a 3000-person amphitheater that hosts community events and gatherings throughout the year, including Friday night movies, Saturday evening concerts and Sunday farmers' markets.

Neighborhood Swimming Pools

Stapleton is home to three neighborhood public pools, with a fourth pool in the works. Public art enhances the exterior of the community's newest pool, the F-15. Titled "Conditional Reflections," the installation features laminated glass panels that represent water in its solid, liquid and gaseous states. While F-15 is geared mostly toward adults with lap lanes and lots of shade, the Puddle Jumper Pool has zero entry, so little ones can walk into the water as far as they want without having to swim. Aviator Pool is home to the Stapleton Stingrays, the community's swim team.

Greenway Park Playground

Within Greenway Park, a playground with a climbing wall keeps little ones active and entertained.

Greenway Park Skate Park

Skateboarders flock to Stapleton's skate park to hone their skills.

Local Community Garden

Stapleton's community garden allows residents to rent plots of land, where they can grow flowers, fruit, vegetables and other plants.

Dog Park

Stapleton's four-legged residents can get their exercise in the community's off-leash dog park. This three-acre space offers dog-level water fountains for Fido, plus street parking and plenty of shade for owners.

Anchor Center for Blind Children

Stapleton has attracted a well-educated group of homebuyers, 80 percent of whom are college graduates. The community is home to six schools, including the Denver School of Science and Technology -- Stapleton's first Charter high school -- and the Anchor Center for Blind Children. Founded in 1982, the Anchor Center educates nearly 400 blind children in Denver each year.

Songbird Pocket Park

One of Stapleton's many pocket parks, this shared green space attracts songbirds with its plantings. The tranquil park is also home to a collection of custom birdhouses designed and built by Stapleton homebuilders, inspired by the community's eclectic mix of architectural styles.

Greenway Park

A major connection route within Stapleton, the East/West Greenway leads to the trails in Westerly Creek as well as designated bike lanes on some of the community's major streets. The park welcomes visitors with biking and walking paths, expansive tennis courts and covered picnic areas.

Diverse Housing Options

Stapleton offers housing in a wide range of styles and price points, including affordable single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums and custom urban estates. This broad selection is meant to unite people from different backgrounds, incomes and life stages, creating a dynamic, integrated community.

Traditional Styles

Stapleton was inspired by Denver's historic neighborhoods, resulting in an eclectic mix of architectural styles throughout the community. Like many new urban towns, Stapleton's homes are reminiscent of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with welcoming front porches facing tree-lined streets and garages hidden in the back, accessible via alleyways.

Eco-Friendly Homes

Every home built in Stapleton is Energy Star qualified, using at least 30 percent less energy than the average new Denver home. Many new homes in Stapleton are almost 70 percent more efficient, and some are even net-zero energy users, meaning they generate as much energy as they use. This responsible building strategy extends to the community's commercial buildings as well, several of which are designed to LEED standards for energy efficiency, water conservation and indoor air quality.
