If you're looking for something to do in Norcross, Ga., you have no shortage of options. From outdoor sports to dining out, you can keep the entire family busy without ever having to drive to the big city.

This small town's crown jewel is its downtown, which offers a range of shops, from clothing to home furnishings to art. You can spend a day strolling through beautifully preserved historic buildings and its boutiques.

If you're into the outdoors, Norcross has a number of parks offering a multitude of amenities. Lillian Webb Community Park, located downtown, has an interactive splash pad, gazebo and volleyball area. Rossie Brundage Park on Autry Street, has ball fields, a playground, picnic tables and a pavilion. And Thrasher Park on Park Drive has a gazebo, pavilion, picnic tables, playground and an amphitheater for outdoor performances.

Best Friend Park is a community park with two pools, tennis courts, a gym, playground and ball fields operated by Gwinnett County government.

Lucky Shoals Park, on Britt Road, has a playground, basketball and tennis courts, walking trails and picnic areas.

West Gwinnett Park & Aquatic Center has an indoor competition and training pool that is open year-round, plus an outdoor pool with slides, sprays and other play features that are open during the summer.

Other neighborhood parks with a variety of amenities include Holcomb Bridge Park, Jones Bridge Park, Graves Park and Pinckneyville Park and Soccer Complex.

The Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA, part of the YMCA Metro Atlanta, offers a multitude of programs and classes for children and adults, as well as state-of-the-art pools, spas, workout facilities and meeting rooms. If you or your family members are athletes, Norcross has a number of sports leagues to join, including football, soccer, baseball and swimming.

If all that shopping and exercise makes you hungry, there are plenty of places to eat. Norcross offers dozens of restaurants, from pub food to Tex-Mex to Cuban to Thai. Top restaurants include Mojito's Cuban American Bistro; Dominick's, a No. 1-rated Italian Restaurant; or J. Alexander's, which specializes in wood-fired cuisine. For lunch, check out the Bleu House Cafe on Holcomb Bridge Road, which offers a selection of sandwiches and salads. For a real treat, visit Grace 1720, a Zagat "Excellent" rated restaurant with an elegant, eclectic menu and space for private parties.

Norcross also hosts its share of festivals and special events throughout the year. Each August the city hold the Slotin Folk Festival, considered to be the largest folk art festival in the world, with more than 100 exhibitors. The Norcross Arts Festival takes place each October. The city has an active arts community, including the Lionheart Theatre Company, which offers an impressive slate of performances every year, plus drama workshops, day camps for children and a children's theater group. The Kudzu Art Zone downtown offers workshops, classes, studios and exhibits for the visual arts.
