At first glance, Sandy Springs can appear to be lacking when it comes to exciting things to do besides seeing a movie or going to a restaurant. Don't get us wrong, Sandy Springs has its fair share of fine and moderately priced dining and we've got nothing against checking out the latest flicks. If you look a little deeper, however, past the strip malls and beyond freeways, you'll find lots of fun to be had in Sandy Springs.

The Sandy Springs Public Library is one of the more popular branches in Atlanta. Patrons go for the wide variety of new fiction as well as young adult titles. The library also hosts yoga classes, story time, a petting zoo and there's even a free meeting room should you need to get a conference space. And get this, you are allowed to keep your books out for a month AND you will get an email two days before they're due. Even better, it's open on Sundays. Color us surprised.

Sandy Springs is also quite well known for its tennis center. It was even named by Tennis Magazine as one of the finest public facilities in the US. It has 24-lighted courts—20 hard, four clay—and has programs for all ages and skill levels. The center also hosts over 130 USTA and ALTA teams as well as a large number of USTA sponsored tournaments. It's also known for producing many nationally ranked players who graced their courts and/or clinics at one time or another. You can book a court online or by calling the center, and rates are surprisingly reasonable at $4 per hour per person.

The Sandy Springs Farmers Market, which runs from spring until the end of October, is a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Not only can you grab some fresh produce but also farm fresh eggs, pasture-raised meat products and lots of tasty cheeses and prepared foods like fresh salsa. The kids can get their faces painted while mom and dad nosh on freshly baked bread and sip on hot coffee.

The crowning jewel in Sandy Springs was established only a few years ago. Heritage Sandy Springs is a nonprofit organization that operates the Heritage Green Park site as well as the Sandy Springs Society and Entertainment Lawn and the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Heritage Sandy Springs holds concerts, festivals, the Rhythm and Brews Thursday night concerts and Concerts by the Springs. Be sure and check out the restored Williams-Payne House on your visit.

Lastly, we would be remiss if we did not mention the beautiful parks and green spaces located throughout Sandy Springs. They include the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Hammond Park, Morgan Falls Overlook, John Ripley Forbes and Ridgeview Park.
